If you are new to shell
Thanks Yarnabrina, I have revisited on setting the path on Git executable (following Tools Global Options Git executable /usr/local/git/bin/git) browsed by searching Git, this git happened to be of 2017 date stamp rather than the one I had installed two days back, and this path was accepted and I could configure completely end-to-end.
If you have never been in a terminal shell, please read this crashcourse quickly. consider watchingthis shell tutorial video by Richard Darst.
Installation on Linux
The default shell is usually Bash, but if your machine is set up differentlyyou can run it by opening a terminal and typing bash
. There is no need toinstall anything.
Installation on macOS
The default shell in all versions of macOS before 'Catalina' is Bash, so no need to installanything. You access Bash from the terminal (found in/Applications/Utilities
). The default shell on macOS 'Catalina' is zsh which will workequally fine for our purposes.
Watch the tutorial for installing the Shell, Git, and Nano on a Mac for a Software Carpentry Workshop(copyright Software Carpentry) for an example on how to open the terminal.
You may want to keep the terminal in your dock for this workshop.
